Asia’s largest fashion fair: CHIC Shanghai
From 14-16 March 2018, more than 1200 national and international fashion brands will present at Asia’s largest fashion fair, CHIC Shanghai, at the New Exhibition & Convention Center, Shanghai.
China’s luxury market is booming
Chinese consumers are optimistic about the future. With 6.9% economic growth in 2017, there are currently more millionaires in China than any other country, according to a recent McKinsey study. By 2025, their share is expected to account for 44% of the purchases in the luxury market, growing to be worth around €131 billion.
In order to make way for international brands, the country is reducing import tariffs for consumer goods, including clothing and footwear. This should guarantee that foreign pricing is comparable to prices in the home countries. China’s Millennials are particularly strong consumers. They value authenticity, individuality, and sustainability.
CHIC Shanghai is also catering to the desire for a more individual offer. The fair’s young design area is being renewed and enlarged. CHIC’s heavily promoted cooperation partners include multi-brand stores and boutiques that focus on lifestyle concept retail, and exclusive and creative brands.
CHIC Shanghai’s segments
CHIC’s entire northern entrance hall is dominated by fashion design. The IMPULSES segment is fully booked and will occupy the entire area. Renowned Chinese designers such as MU by Frank, Hua Mu Shen, and Tuffcan will present their latest collections. Other participants include Wang Yutao, the former Elle style ambassador and winner of China’s most important fashion award Jin Ding, with his label B+, and Shi Jie, who exhibits internationally at designer forums in Paris, with his collection SHI JIE & JANIQUE.
The KID’S PARADISE area will include Chinese market leaders NONO & CO from the Netherlands, THE BEAR’S SCHOOL from Japan, and children’s fashion brands LIKEA SCRIBBLE, MOIMOI, and KAMPPI from South Korea.
In the international FASHION JOURNEEY area, 248 exhibitors from 14 nations will use CHIC as a presentation and service platform for their entry into the Chinese market. Italy is traditionally the country with the largest number of participants. This year, participants include 40 brands from Italy, such as Suprema and Ferruccio Vecchi, in cooperation with Sistema Moda Italiana, Assocalzaturifici, and the Italian Trade Agency ITA. “We’re putting a lot of energy into preparing for this latest rendezvous with La Moda Italiana at CHIC in order to build an offering of brands and companies that excel in the range and quality of their products,” says Alberto Scaccioni, CEO of EnteModa Italia.
German companies are participating under the MADE IN GERMANY umbrella as part of the foreign trade fair program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, managed by Messe Düsseldorf. First-time exhibitors include IGN.JOSEPH and Escora in the lingerie sector.
CHIC Shanghai’s offer of shows, seminars, and service
Within the framework of CHIC TALK, market experts and trend analysts will discuss current developments in the fashion business in China. They will consider both the offline and the online business. WGSN will report on trends for Fall/Winter 2018/19. The theme of ecological fashion will be discussed at the first China International Healthy T-Shirt Summit.
CHIC places a special focus on visitor marketing. A selected clientele will receive detailed information by app about exhibitors and the trade fair. In advance of the fair, CHIC has organised nationwide visitor roundtable meetings, purchasing seminars, and conferences for fashion agencies in China’s metropolises.
