In the latest test by Stiftung Warentest and ADAC (06/2018), the child seats Joie Traber Shield and Joie Traver received the overall grade “good” with 1.9 and 1.8. In addition, the child seats Monza Nova Evo Seatfix and Monza Nova Evo from the hardware manufacturer Recaro scored “good” (2.0). The Nuna AACE achieved an overall grade of 1.9 and came second.

In the “test” issue 06/2018 a total of 23 child seats were examined which are approved from birth up to 36 kilograms of body weight and up to 150 centimeters body height. The evaluation was based on the criteria of accident safety, handling, ergonomics and pollutants.

Joie’s Traver and Traver Shield performed well when handling the belt and there was very little risk of misuse. The ergonomics and comfort of the Joie child seats were also impressive. The Traver Shield is cheaper than other car seats but still achieved good results in the test. When measuring the pollutant load of both seats, the results were “very good”.

Joie child seats: Growing companions

The Joie child seats in group 1/2/3 and group 2/3 act as companions for a longer period of time. The Traver Shield and Traver grow with the baby and accompany children into their teens. With this function it is crucial that the covers are easy to remove and wash. Children weighing nine kilograms or more can sit in the Traver Shield. The safety Impact Shield of the Traver Shield can be adjusted to four depths so that the child has enough freedom of movement. The Traver child seat, on the other hand, is suitable for children weighing 15 kilograms. Both models have an adjustable headrest that can be moved into eight different positions. In addition, the seat depth of both car seats can be adjusted in three steps.

Safety concept of the Traver & Traver Shield

Owing to a large side impact protection both seats are equipped with a good safety concept. The headrests and seats of the Traver and Traver Shield are clearly marked for parents to avoid misuse. The Iso Safe connectors provide additional stability. The Iso Safe connectors can be adjusted in eight steps so that they can be easily attached to the Iosfix anchors in the car.

Recaro Monza Nova Evo Seatfix achieves top rating

In the Stiftung Warentest study, the Recaro Monza Nova Evo Seatfix child seat, which grows with the child, received the best grade of 1.0 in the area of harmful substances. The Monza Nova Evo also achieved a “very good” rating for remaining free of harmful substances. The model received a grade of 1.6 for handling. Both seat types also have good accident safety and ergonomics.

“The latest Stiftung Warentest results confirm that our growing child seats for Groups II and III meet the highest standards in terms of safety and ergonomics. That’s why we will be making additional investments here in the near future”, Mr. Hartmut Schürg, Chief Operations Officer.

The Recaro Monza Nova Evo Seatfix is suitable for children aged three to twelve. The built-in Advanced Side Protection minimizes forces considerably in the event of a side impact and thus ensures greater safety. The integrated ventilation system “Air Circulation Systems” ensures a pleasant seat climate. In addition, integrated Seatfix connectors ensure good stabilization of the child seat in the vehicle. Compared to the Recaro Monza Nova 2 Seatfix, the newer model has no integrated speakers and air cushions in the headrest. This makes the Recaro Monza Nova Evo the cost-effective alternative of the Monza Nova series.

Nuna AACE child seat in 2nd place

The Nuna AACE received an overall grade of 1.9 from Stiftung Warentest and the ADAC for good safety values, simple, intuitive control and very low pollution. In addition, AACE scored positively in the field of ergonomics, with its growing 3D system which can be adjusted in height, width and depth.

The Nuna ACCE headrest can be adjusted to nine different positions. The side panels of the child seat also adjust automatically. The depth of the seat can also be adjusted. Children from 15 to 36 kilograms can therefore rest their legs comfortably while driving.

Safety concept of the Nuna child seat

Energy absorbing materials, individually adjustable side impact protection and seat belt markings are part of the Nuna AACE safety concept. The AACE can be connected to the vehicle via Isofix connectors. The child can sit back comfortably and relaxed in the child seat thanks to the possibility of a resting position. Ventilation slots on the seat and breathable covers ensure a pleasant climate in the Nuna AACE.
