A big thank you to the team for continuing to make life easier for our customers”.

What does Prime Day mean for Amazon?

A real revenue generator for Amazon was Prime Day on 15 and 16 July. Prime members purchased more than 175 million products during the event. Numerous small and medium-sized companies sold their products here. For SMEs alone, Amazon puts the Prime Day turnover at over two billion US dollars. The Munich company Pumpkin Orange from the children’s equipment sector participated. Its head of marketing, Christian Heß, expressed his satisfaction: “Our Quetschies with organic vegetable puree were sold like hot cakes, we were able to win numerous new customers, especially in Germany, but also from Austria and Italy, and we are very pleased about a 170 percent increase in sales. Especially for us as a young company, Prime Day was a great opportunity to become better known”. Amazon also focuses on exclusivity: the Fashion division offers clothing for babies and toddlers from Moon and Back in cooperation with Hanna Andersson or the Hanes Ultimate Baby collection.

Use of Alexa to be further expanded

Amazon sees great potential in the digital language assistant Alexa and is greatly expanding its range of applications here. There are now over 60,000 Alexa-compatible smart home products. So customers can use Alexa at home over selected television sets of LG, with ecobees newest intelligent thermostat or on the way over new headphones of Bose and Jabra. Lexus and Toyota are also integrating the assistant into many of their vehicles. In Germany and the UK, Alexa can be found in selected BMW and MINI vehicles. Additionally, Garmin, iOttie and Nextbase have launched new automotive accessories that customers can use to install Alexa in their current vehicle. In the USA, Alexa is used for home monitoring. Alexa Guard detects the noise of smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and broken glass and can also be connected to existing alarm systems.
