The online giant is looking for over 2,000 new employees this year. Amazon intends to expand areas such as Web Services, AmazonFresh, Alexa or Prime Video.

The Group would then have more than 18,000 employees in Germany alone. Above all, this recruitment offensive is intended to expand the offices and the development and logistics centers. For instance, a new office has been added at the Alexanderplatz location in Berlin. The focus here is on Amazon Web Services. For the company, the goal is clear: investments like these should further improve services for customers such as AmazonFresh, Alexa or Prime.

Amazon operates four development centers in Germany

For this Purpose the company has committed itself to a broad search. It is aimed at both young professionals and specialists – including software developers, linguists, logistics experts, personnel and IT specialists. Ralf Kleber, Country Manager “We drive important innovations for our customers in Germany and Europe. We are, therefore, looking for employees who are enthusiastic about future topics and act entrepreneurially. For us it still is day one: “We are at the beginning of the possibilities that digitization opens up to us.” The company operates four development centers in Germany to drive innovation in this area. It supports the development of innovations for websites, apps, digital media, devices and software for speech recognition technologies or cloud services, for instance.

Expansion of business platform in Spain and Italy

The Group has already taken the next step. The business program was launched in Italy and Spain at the end of June. This means that Amazon now also offers its marketplace for business customers in the two southern European countries. This enables German companies with branches in these countries to make their business purchases via these platforms. Features include free delivery, display of net price, multi-user accounts and an analysis tool. “The launch of Amazon Business on and enables multi-national companies with offices in Europe to further optimize their procurement,” says Florian Böhme, Director of Amazon Business in Germany.

German exports for over two billion euros

At the same time, the introduction of the new business program in Spain and Italy is to offer small companies from Germany new sales opportunities. If they sell through it, they can reach new customers in these two countries. According to the company, small and medium-sized companies employ more than 75,000 people for their sales on Amazon Marketplace. Accordingly, export sales in 2017 amounted to more than two billion euros.
