Award: “Red Dot” for innovative baby and children’s products
Several innovative baby and child products have received the “Red Dot” Award for design. The year’s best products will be graced by the award’s striking winner label, which is internationally established as one of the most sought-after seals of quality for good design . The prize went to a multi-sensory cradle, a baby seat for photography, a wooden racetrack, and a pushchair.
Manufacturers and designers from 54 nations applied for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017, with a record number of more than 5,500 new products. For several days, 39 experts from all over the world gathered in Essen to evaluate each individual object. The “Red Dot” award went only to designs that impressed the jury with their high design quality. Juror Martin Darbyshire, founder and CEO of the internationally renowned design bureau “tangerine” said: “For brands, the Red Dot Award is a seal of quality that differentiates the product from the competition, and gives consumers the confidence to know that they are getting the best-quality products.”
Award for baby photography seat
The award recipients included clever products from the baby and children’s sector. The French manufacturer Générale de Téléphone was honoured with a Red Dot for its solution, which makes it possible to take high-quality passport photos of babies. His Studio ID Baby Seat is sturdy, made of three-dimensionally shaped foam, holds the baby, and also serves as a photo background. “The Studio ID Baby Seat convinced us with its sophisticated functionality, while being designed to offer babies the highest comfort while their photo is taken,” explained the jury in their decision.
The Ramp Racer wooden racetrack from Plan Creations also received a Red Dot. The four-level track is made of natural materials in a cascading style. It promotes hand-eye coordination as well as a basic understanding of the principle of cause and effect. Here, the experts praised the Ramp Racer for being “both robust and gracefully designed. The visual contrast between the wooden train and the coloured racing car makes it easier for children to follow the speedy cars.”
Mios pushchair from Cybex is one of the best design products
The Mios pushchair from Cybex was named as one of the best products in the baby and child category. Easily manoeuvrable for city life, it weighs 8.7 kg, is 50 cm in width, and has a small wheelbase and a retro-modern design language. “The Mios pushchair convinced us with its sophisticated design quality. Perfectly adapted to life with children, it is reliable, comfortable, and very light. In a matter of seconds, it can be folded down into a compact format. It amazed us with its exceptionally sturdy construction as well as a functionality that is thought out down to the last detail and that offers numerous options for customisation. This striking pushchair combines practicality with stylish elegance,” said the jury in its judgement for the Red Dot Best of the Best award.
For its sophisticated detailed solution, a Red Dot went to the multisensory cradle Memola from the Polish manufacturer of the same name. The cradle can be used for a long time: it animates babies to lift their heads, can easily be converted to a basket and later to a swing. In awarding the Red Dot Honorable Mention, the jury said: “the Memola cradle won us over with its functional aspects because its special design specifically promotes child development.”
Many winners use the appeal of the internationally recognised Red Dot Design Award for advertising and marketing purposes. Applications are now open for this year’s edition of the competition. Interested parties can get information at www.red-dot.de.
