The female fans of the Star Wars saga have reason to celebrate. The British shoe brand Clarks, in cooperation with Star Wars, has designed a shoe collection inspired by the Star Wars character Rey. The collection is called “Force of Nature” and is intended to reflect the strong character traits of the protagonist (played by Daisy Ridley). The collection has been available in selected shops and online since 1 December 2017.

Just in time for the theatrical release of the new Star Wars movie “The Last Jedi” on 14 December, a merchandise collection has been produced for female fans. According to Clarks, Rey represents strength and power, without restrictions or excuses, a character who is true to herself without compromise. Clarks wants to use this positive image of women.

Message: “Stay true to yourself”

The British writer Mohadesa Najumi has written that “the woman who does not require validation from anyone is the most feared individual on the planet.” In accordance with this motto, the Clarks label has built its merchandise collection around Rey as a positive representation of women in the modern world.

Since Disney secured the Star Wars license in 2012, the merchandise business has been booming. The licence was bought for around $4 billion, while the movie “The Force Awakes” achieved more than $2 billion at the box office alone, according to estimates by The big money is not made with the films themselves, but with the licensed products. Disney has already generated more than 30 billion euros with the brand (as of 2015). That means there are high expectations of the success of the upcoming Star Wars movie: “The last Jedi” and Disney’s marketing efforts.
