The plush toy manufacturer Efie from Wuppertal was nominated for the German Sustainability Award 2019. Efie has been producing its plush clothing for children as well as game and cuddly blankets, baby play clocks and other children’s products since 1951 and exclusively in Germany. In this way, the company ensures sustainability and durability. In addition, the filling material of Efie products is allergy-free or virgin sheep’s wool is used. Efie’s “nature line” is particularly noteworthy because it works exclusively with organic cotton.

100 percent from Wuppertal in Germany

The jury of the German Sustainability Award confirms this again in the press release: “The organic toy brand Efie of Weidner & Thüngen GbR masters a balancing act: The ecological production is GOTS certified and meets strict EU toy guidelines (CE) – but the products remain affordable for the end-consumer. The company, which produces 100 percent of its products in Wuppertal, Germany, confidently and successfully competes with foreign manufacturers of cheap mass-produced goods and monitors in detail the environmental and social standards required for GOTS certification along the entire supply chain. Very good and good results from Öko-Test give the company additional motivation. Efie also wants to expand its vegan range in the future. All sales packaging has already been switched to recyclable paper”.

Award ceremony in December

The award ceremony and final announcement of the winners will take place in Düsseldorf in December. Until then, a lot of data, facts and figures have to be collected and prepared. The jury evaluates the innovative sustainability strategies and the measures and concepts of the companies that are based on them.

Joy at Efie

After winning the German Brand Award in the “Kids & Toys” category in 2017, Efie is once again particularly pleased with the nomination. Owner Anja Weidner and Sacha Thüngen stated: “We are proud to have passed the first hurdle of the selection process. We didn’t expect that.”
