The baby carrier specialist Ergobaby Europe GmbH has won this year’s iF Design Award in the new baby carriage product category for the company. The Metro Compact City Stroller, launched at Kind + Jugend, won an award in the product design category. The prize has been awarded by iF International Forum Design GmbH Hannover for 66 years.

The pram is currently the only stroller to have been awarded the seal of quality of the Aktion Gesunder Rücken (AGR). Ergobaby has now been able to show that the product design is also convincing.

“The product field is very large, and the number of applicants was correspondingly high: The jurors selected the winners from a total of more than 6,000 entries from 52 countries in the various product categories,” explains Sabine Sacher, Director Marketing EMEA at Ergobaby, adding: “Since its foundation, the iF label has been an internationally recognised guarantee for outstanding design quality. We are therefore particularly proud to receive an award for our expertise in product design in addition to our core competence in ergonomics, which has been awarded the AGR Seal of Quality. With the Metro Compact City Stroller, we are positioning ourselves as a strong competitor in a new product category for us. The iF Design Award therefore plays an important role for us in opening up the new “pram/buggy” market.”

Compact prams increasingly innovative

Ergobaby Managing Director EMEA and APAC, Gunnar Dahl, explains the entry into the pram segment as follows: “Like baby carriers, prams are now part of the basic equipment of expectant parents. We use our expertise and experience from our core business to develop products in other categories that support families on their way. Ergonomics and comfort are our guiding principles, which we are now also applying to prams. The biggest trend can be observed in the compact pram segment. For many, these are clearly “second pushchairs”, but for more and more they are also a real alternative to large pushchairs. Some newcomers such as Ergobaby, but above all many of the established brands are pushing into this segment and outperforming themselves with functionalities. The customer benefits from great innovations and a wide range of choices.”
