At this year’s Glassdoor Award 2019 for employee satisfaction, adidas and Amazon made it into the top 25 best employers in Germany.

The Glassdoor job and recruiting website honors outstanding employers and managers every year. The basis for this is employee satisfaction, which is determined exclusively by anonymous employee feedback. This year the award was presented for the fourth time.

Adidas and Amazon as representatives of the apparel industry

The Glassdoor Awards were presented in five countries: Germany, USA, Great Britain, France and Canada. At this year’s awards ceremony, only two apparel companies made it into the top 25 in Germany: Adidas and Amazon.

Adidas ranked 22nd with a score of 4.2 out of five possible stars. “Young corporate culture” and “you can climb the career ladder quickly” were two of the positive employee feedbacks from a business development manager working there. This means that the German sporting goods manufacturer is doing worse than last year. In 2018, Adidas took ninth place with 4.4 points (compared to 2016: ninth place with 3.9 points). Still in 2nd place in 2017, Adidas is thus slipping further down the rankings every year.

Amazon CEO Bezos is most popular manager

Amazon finished in 24th place with 4.1 points. A Senior Solutions Architect praised: “You work with very smart people, you learn a lot from the first day and you feel valued”.  The online mail order company last appeared in the ranking in 2017 and ranked fourth at the time.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos secured tenth and last place among the most popular managers in Germany with 94% approval. The determination of the winners is based on the general support rate for Glassdoor.

In the USA, just as in 2018, Amazon is not represented in the “Best Places To Work”. In contrast, however, the company has made it to tenth place in France.

The Puma brand took fifth place in 2018 and is not even among the top 25 this year.

The first three places were taken by SAP (4.6), Infineon Technologies (4.5) and Robert Bosch (4.4). The Max Planck Society came in last with 25th place.

Glassdoor Award as a result of employee feedback

The special thing about the Glassdoor Awards is that the companies cannot nominate themselves. The winners are selected exclusively on the basis of feedback from employees who voluntarily submit their employer ratings on the portal. Glassdoor uses its own award algorithm to determine the winner, which incorporates feedback from the last twelve months. The quality, quantity and consistency of the company ratings are taken into account.

Evaluation criteria are among others: career opportunities, compensation & benefits, culture & values, managers and work-life balance.
