idee+spiel offers its dealers new market opportunities. From now on, they will be advised and supplied by the subsidiary of Mayersche Buchhandlung, Best of Books GmbH.

Sales in the German book market exceed eight billion euros. In order to participate even more in this business, idee+spiel cooperates with B.O.B. Best of Books GmbH. The subsidiary of Mayersche Buchhandlung offers individual solutions for the trade from the designed and managed book shop to the campaign concept. The company was founded in 2000 and since then more than a hundred book shops and 1,700 book depositories – for instance at Rossmann – have been built. For the members of idee+spiel there is an all-round carefree package: The entrepreneur simply provides the sales area of his choice. Best Of Books takes care of everything else – from specialist trade-specific ranges to furnishings. The offer in the secondary book market is intended for easy and professional entry or expansion into the existing book segment.

Advantage in the book ancillary market as well: books are year-round products

idee+spiel product manager Efthimios Sidiropoulos explains the background: “Books are the most frequently given away articles in Germany all year round. We want to fully exploit this potential for our dealers!” Books have numerous advantages for the specialist trade: they are a year-round product and independent of seasonal business. In addition, secure margins are guaranteed by fixed book prices. With B.O.B. the association relies on a strong partner. According to its own statements, the subsidiary of Mayersche Buchhandlung is the second largest provider in the secondary book market. In 2017, the company again recorded a positive development in the growing secondary market segment. Andrea Weiß, Managing Director of Best of Books: “This is not a matter of course, because not all sectors in the secondary market are equally successful. Food retailing in particular is particularly fiercely contested”.

Books and toys are a strong combination

However, Weiß sees the combination of book and game as a strong duo: “The medium book is the perfect complement in the toy market. This was also confirmed at this year’s Toy Fair by the special show “Toys meet books”. The company will certainly also benefit from its in-house experience in the toy sector. “Teddy & Co” is the name of the toy range of Mayersche, which has recorded a double-digit growth for the fifth year in a row. “Both toys and books are particularly emotional themes,” emphasizes Andrea Weiß. “Our employees in the respective areas bring a great deal of empathy and the necessary specialist knowledge to be able to respond to our customers individually.
