One of the most profitable days in German retailing: numerous online retailers benefited from last year’s Black Friday. Among them was the fashion giant Zalando. On Monday, the Berlin-based company announced an “enthusiastic result”. With such numbers it can go on for the online giant in the future. The next highlight for Zalando is already in the making: the new capsule collection with the French label Armor Lux.

Zalando was able to record around two million orders on the so-called Black Friday. According to Zalando, the clientele would have ordered around 4,200 times per minute during particularly active hours – this means more than 2,000 times more than last year. In addition to the existing customers, around 220,000 new customers were added. In 2017, Zalando recorded around 100,000 new customers on Black Friday. A press release stated that the best-seller on that day was the classic sneaker. The customer could expect discounts on numerous shoe models. “With strong results in all our markets, we experienced a successful Cyber Week and a record Black Friday. From campaign strategy to tech to logistics and beyond, we worked very well together to provide our customers with a convenient shopping experience – just like any other day. I am proud of what we have achieved here as a team and look forward to building on it in the future,” said Moritz Hahn, Senior Vice President of Commercial Business at Zalando.

Children’s fashion at Zalando

Europe’s biggest fashion online retailer is now trying to make a start on success after a particularly busy weekend. For the start of the Christmas season, Zalando is presenting a special capsule collection for children together with the French label Armor Lux. The collection includes children’s dungarees made of canvas, a simple logo T-shirt, as well as stripe elements typical of the brand. The colour palette ranges from camel and royal to white and rosé. Armor Lux was inspired for the capsule by the Breton coastal fishermen. Inspired by fishermen who were more recognisable with stripes when they went overboard. The brand name is also linked to that tradition – “Armor” in the Breton language stands for “sea”, while “Lux” refers to the light on the coast.

The collaboration is strictly limited to 200 pieces per style and will be available on Zalando from 17.12.2018.
