From 30 January to 3 February 2019, the International Toy Fair will be celebrating its 70th birthday. In addition to restructuring individual product groups, expert lectures and the ToyFestival await visitors on the Thursday of the fair.

On an area of 170,000 square metres on the N├╝rnberg Messe site, 2,886 exhibitors from 68 countries will be presenting their new products for toys, hobbies and leisure to trade visitors at this year’s Spielwarenmesse. This contrasts with around 71,000 buyers and specialist retailers from over 125 nations. This year’s trends are “Ready, Steady, Play!”, “The WOW Effect” and “Toys 4 Kidults”. The nominees and winners of the ToyAward will also be presented.

Changes in the structure of the offer

There will be some restructuring in the halls. “We are pushing for a future-oriented orientation of the International Toy Fair. By restructuring the product groups, we are taking account of the dynamic changes in the market,” explains Ernst Kick, CEO of Spielwarenmesse eG.
The new Electronic Toys product group will move into Hall 4A. It comprises robots, RC toys, virtual games and electronic learning toys.
In future, Hall 7A will bring together the model railways and model making segments. “The international diversity of both sectors, which appeal to identical target groups, is united under one roof in order to present the complete range of products,” according to a current press release.
Due to its great success, the festive articles, carnival and fireworks product group in Hall 9 will be expanded to include a section of Hall 8.

Action areas as this year’s highlights

“The absolute highlight in this product group is the over 200 square metre Showtime action area, which conveys a genuine entertainment character,” says Florian Hess, Director Fair Management. “The catwalk offers daily fashion shows of the latest carnival costumes and make-up tips. Visitors also have the opportunity to try their hand at the photo mirror. Many of the exhibitors’ decorative utensils contribute to one or two snapshots.”
The highly frequented special show Toys meets Books has been extended to 200 square metres. In addition to relevant non-book articles, there will also be lectures, best practice examples and speed coaching with trade professionals in German and English.

Cutting-edge topics in the Toy Business Forum

In Hall 3A, national and international experts will give lectures on current business topics. These include Trends and innovations, change management and the challenges posed by digitisation.
LicenseTalks will be added as a new feature. These complement the wide range of license topics and products. “At LicensePreview, major studios and agencies such as CPLG, Viacom/Nickelodeon and NBC Universal will present their concepts to selected business contacts in an exclusive atmosphere. The long-term cooperation with the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) and its stand in the foyer of Hall 12.0 underscores the importance of licences at the International Toy Fair,” said the organisers.

TrendGallery presents trends and innovations

The TrendGallery in Hall 3A presents three trend themes selected by the international TrendCommittee:
“Ready, Steady, Play” focuses on products in the areas of movement, fun and activity.
“The WOW Effect” thematises toys with a surprise effect, the true content of which only becomes visible when they are played or unpacked.
“Toys 4 Kidults” also addresses the adult world with real eye-catchers and collectibles.

Spielwarenmesse celebrates big anniversary with ToyFestival

The ToyFestival is celebrated on the Thursday of the fair. Selfie station with ball pool and deckchairs, live band and culinary delicacies await visitors. The final event will be a big fireworks display on the Saturday of the fair. Fair boss Ernst Kick is full of anticipation: “With our activities for the 70th International Toy Fair we would like to thank all participants for their years of loyalty. At the same time, we are showing foresight and ensuring that our quality event stands for a sector with a promising future”.
