On 8 July, the Red Dot Award was presented to the best designers and manufacturers of the year. The Red Dot Award has established itself internationally as one of the most coveted seals of quality for good design. The winner’s label serves to distinguish the prize winners from the competition.

Since 1955 a jury of experts has been evaluating the best designs. Criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality, formal quality, durability and ergonomics are examined. The Red Dot Award is divided into three disciplines: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept.

“The winners set the trends in the design industry and show where things can go in the future,” says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of Red Dot.

The winners of the Red Dot Award

Among the winners of the Red Dot Award in the Product Design category are Lässig, Cybex, Britax Römer, Joie, Nuna, Dorel and Babybjörn. Lässig won the Red Dot Award for the Green Label Adventure Backpack for his outstanding product design.

The Green Label Adventure Backpack

The Green Label Adventure Backpack was one of over 5,500 products submitted to the international Red Dot jury. “The functional design and sustainability of this wrap-around backpack made of recycled PET bottles make it a contemporary product for modern parents,” was the reason for the Red Dot Award.
“We at Lässig develop products that are fun and make life easier for families. A beautiful look is just as important to us as high quality, individuality and a long service life. We are particularly honoured that, following our four-fold success last year, we again met the high demands of the Red Dot jury in 2019,” said Claudia and Stefan Lässig, who, together with Karin Heinrich, have been running the company for 12 years.
Babybjörn convinced the jury with his little bib – Small Baby Bib. The jury’s reasoning: “With its functionally well thought-out and ergonomically adapted design to the baby’s body, the Small Bib makes meals more comfortable for the baby and parents”.

The hardware brand Nuna won three awards at once. According to the jury, the Mixx pram from Nuna International BV won the award for its sophisticated components and high-quality aesthetics, which are characterised by imitation leather elements. Nuna also won the Red Dot Award for the Myti child seat and the Leaf grow baby bouncer & armchair, “The appearance of the Myti child seat conveys high comfort. As a seat that grows with the child, it is also functionally mature and can therefore be easily adapted to the child’s size,” the jury explained their decision.

“The design of this child’s armchair is reminiscent of a soft nest and radiates a feeling of security that is enhanced by the swinging motion. What is particularly practical is that the armchair grows with the child,” the jury said.
