The entry into the licensing business was the right step. This is also shown by the industry’s recognition. Playmobil received a total of four awards in 2018.

It started with a Porsche license. 2017 followed the much acclaimed launch of Playmobil with the movie hits Ghostbusters and DreamWorks Dragons. Around these topics, the company launched licensed Spielwelt (world of play) on the market. Silke Heinrich, head of sales and marketing, commented on the significance of the new products: “The new licensed products are an important milestone for our brand. We hope to win new fans and at the same time to get long-time fans even more enthusiastic about our brand, because the stories of the Playmobil and Ghostbusters heroes are very popular across generations.” The new game sets were obviously also very popular, as more products were added to these films last year. In addition, Playmobil started with another license. For DreamWorks Spirit – Riding Free the company designed sets around the special friendship between Lucky and her Mustang Spirit. This license courage has been rewarded several times with awards for Playmobil.

Also LIMA-Award among the awards for Playmobil

For the Handelsverband Spielwaren, the Spirit sets are among the most popular toys of the past year. The jury experts awarded the Spielwelt the prize as “Top 10 Toys 2018”. Plastics experts are also convinced by the Spirit series. The jury of the industry competition “pro-K award 2019” organized by the industry association “Industrieverband Halbzeuge und Konsumprodukte aus Kunststoff e.V.” awarded these Playmobil products in the category “Toys”. The German Design Award is looking for unique design trends. Playmobil was honoured here for the play sets from the DreamWorks Dragons series. For the company, this is confirmation of the importance of the license themes in its own company: “The German Design Award illustrates the influence of license themes, especially the DreamWorks Dragons game world, beyond the toy industry”. The fourth of the awards for Playmobil shows just how much attention is being paid to them in the world of licensing. For the second time in a row, the international Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association awarded the prize as Licensee of the Year.

Innovations planned for 2019 on various license themes

It is therefore only logical that Playmobil should continue to pursue this successful area. The company has already indicated that it will continue to focus on the licensing business in 2019. In addition to Playmobil classics, the new product range will again include numerous products with various license themes.
