Spielwarenmesse and NürnbergMesse have prematurely extended their contract. This means that the important industry event will remain in the Bavarian metropolis.

It is a trade fair with international appeal and a long history. In 1950 Ludwig Erhard opened the first toy fair in Nuremberg. Today, the industry meeting place brings together around 2,900 national and international exhibitors with over 70,000 buyers and specialist dealers from 130 countries. Spielwarenmesse eG and Nürnberg-Messe GmbH have now prematurely extended their contractual obligations until 2028. Ernst Kick, CEO of Spielwarenmesse eG: “We want to continue to live up to our claim as the industry’s leading trade fair in the future. This will be supported by the planned further development of the site and the modernisation of the infrastructure. That is why we are looking forward to continuing our trustful cooperation with enthusiasm and vigour”. Kick continued: “This year we received a very good or good rating from 83.5 percent of the exhibitors. Over 90 percent have also confirmed their participation for next year. We are already looking forward to the upcoming event.”

Spielwarenmesse has a high impact on Nuremberg as a business location

For Nürnberg Messe, Spielwarenmesse is an important building block in the portfolio. “When you say Nürnberg is a trade fair venue, you often think of toys - in Berlin, Hong Kong or New York,” says CEO Dr. Roland Fleck. “Nuremberg will continue to be the world capital of gaming in the coming years”. The premature extension of the contract is a clear commitment by both parties to continue the joint success story. This will keep Spielwarenmesse at a successful location. In the last fiscal year 2018, Nürnberg Messe achieved sales of 315.1 million euros. The profit amounted to 28 million euros. With over 35,000 exhibitors, more than 1.5 million visitors and over 1.2 million square metres of net exhibition space, new records were also set. Peter Ottmann, also Managing Director of NürnbergMesse: “In our view, the contract extension is a triple profit - for Spielwarenmesse, for Nürnberg Messe and above all for our customers - namely exhibitors and trade visitors”.

Preparations for the 2020 edition already well advanced

The plans for Spielwarenmesse 2020 are already in full swing. It is already clear that 310 companies will be presenting their new products in the baby and toddler product group. Among them are renowned long-standing exhibitors such as Habermaass from Germany, the US company Skip Hop and Nattou from France. For example, Cam Cam Copenhagen A/S from Denmark and the Belgian manufacturer Tiny Magic will be represented for the first time. The programme of the Toy Business Forum has also already been lashed down. Every day, international and national speakers pass on new trade knowledge from 1 pm to 3 pm. The agenda will include current market developments, upcoming trends from the world of retailing and toys, as well as digitalization and change management. Among the speakers will be Clara Blasco from the Spanish AIJU Technological Institute for Children’s products & leisure and Stefan Hagen, Business Coach and Consultant.
